Full Job Description

We are currently seeking a Freelance Post-Production Captioner to join our Operations group at VITAC, a core division of The Verbit Group. VITAC's 35 years of captioning expertise, together with Verbit's dual Artificial Intelligence + Human Intelligence method, makes us the most trusted solution for ensuring all video and audio content, both live and recorded, is accessible to everyone.

The Freelance Post-Production Captioner will create captions for a variety of programs.

This is a freelance, remote position with flexible work hours and availability. Qualified candidates must have access to their own professional captioning software and at least one year of offline captioning experience.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Listen to program audio (with accompanied video) and produce captions using approved captioning software
  • Position captions on screen to indicate speaker changes, while avoiding graphics, logos, and copyrights
  • Establish precise timing of captions to appear and disappear in synchronization with audio and video changes in programs
  • Conduct research, as necessary, using the internet or other available resources to ensure content accuracy of all captions
  • Independently audit content to correct inaccuracies before deadline
  • Adhere to VITAC-provided style guides and procedures to ensure VITAC standards are met
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Broad knowledge of English language, grammar, and punctuation
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
  • Must successfully pass VITAC proficiency tests
