Responsibilities

The Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the food service program at one location. Key duties include ensuring high food quality, managing inventory, maintaining food safety, and delivering excellent customer service. This role requires adherence to facility menus, relevant regulations, and HCSG policies to consistently deliver quality dining services.

  • Lead and support the food service team in meeting quality and safety standards.
  • Use HCSG computer software to maintain accurate records of finances, food supplies, personnel, and equipment.
  • Conduct staff training, quality control, and in-service sessions; step in as dietary aide, cook, or dishwasher when needed.
  • Communicate directives from client managers, building occupants, and administrators effectively to HCSG staff.
  • Ensure the safe use of protective gear and cleaning solutions, reporting equipment needs or malfunctions promptly.
  • Follow infection control, universal precautions, and handwashing guidelines to maintain a clean environment.
  • Ensure consistent attendance and punctuality, completing all tasks within deadlines.
  • Maintain a positive representation of HCSG through courteous interactions with everyone involved.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • An associate degree or higher in food service management or hospitality, with coursework in food service or restaurant management preferred.
  • Preferably, two years of experience in quantity food production/service and personnel supervision.
  • Certification as a Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) is preferred, or as required by local laws.
  • Must obtain the Food Protection Manager (FPM) certification within 14 days of employment.
  • Must obtain Food Service Manager (FSM) and Long-Term Care Food Service (LTC-FSM) certifications within 60 days of employment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and communicate effectively with all levels of the team and clients.
  • Adherence to COVID-19 vaccination policies.
  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull up to 50 pounds, and sustain extended periods of standing, sitting, bending, and walking.
  • Must be able to continuously perform routine, repetitive tasks.
  • Comfortable working around food and cleaning products.
  • Basic computer skills for maintaining records and completing reports, including web-based reporting.
  • May need to complete an approved sanitation and safety course.
  • Must reside within the service area.
